Let’s get moving on Landscaping and masonry projects that can be installed during the winter months!

When the calendar turns from December to January, most of us look to the interior of our homes for projects we would like to accomplish. Normally, Mother Nature leaves us no other choice but to remain indoors during the winter months. Winter of 2012 has been completely different in that we have managed to escape the cold and snow at least up until the middle part of February. The way the weather patterns are trending it appears as if the mild conditions will continue.

The installation of a large tree in January, 2012

The mild winter has given many of our customers the opportunity to have Landscape, masonry and even irrigation projects installed. Many of our customers who had wanted projects done in 2011 decided to wait due to economic conditions and were of the mindset that you cannot have landscaping installed during the winter.

Let me first address the first concern of the weather. Trees, shrubs and perennials would prefer to be planted during colder, dormant conditions. There is little or no stress to plants when installing plants when they are dormant. There are a few varieties of plants that do not respond well when planted in the winter such as leafy evergreens like Holly, Azaleas and Rhododendron. Outside of the leafy evergreens the dormant season is the best for transplanting.

Raised Planters | January 2012

The second concern of economic conditions: I will not try and convince you that all is well economically speaking. However, I can tell you that Plymouth Nursery has been and will continue to be aggressive with pricing as we move through the winter and into the coming spring.

We are offering substantial discounts to anyone wanting landscaping, masonry, lighting, irrigation and many other types of projects around the outside of your home or business.
I have also seen signs of improvement in the economy and remain upbeat and excited about the business climate in 2012.

If you would like a free consultation I would urge you to contact us now to take advantage of our winter discounts.

What is a watergarden?

It is an outdoor space that incorporates trees, shrubs, flowers and a waterfeature.

Most watergardens contain a waterfall and stream which flow into a pond. The pond can contain a combination of aquatic plantings such as waterlilies and colorful fish. If your desire is to have a pond, regardless of the size, it is a good idea to have a combination of fish and aquatic plantings. The fish and Aquatic plantings work in unison to keep the water clear and insect free.

You do not need a large space to have a watergarden on your property. The videos that are up on the blog are examples of how a waterfeature can fit into the smallest of spaces.
Alternatively, the waterfeature can be scaled up for larger spaces.

Plymouth Nursery features top quality, Pennsylvania grown Fraser Firs which were cut and picked up from the farm late November. Many of the box stores have their trees cut and processed months ago. Most come from North Carolina. Not only is it important to support your local small business but it is equally important to support Pennsylvania’s Christmas Tree growers.

You will see the difference in a tree grown in North Carolina versus a Pennsylvania grown Christmas Tree. The Pennsylvania grown trees will be a much fresher tree. They are not packed into refrigerated tractor trailers for a week before they arrive.

We also carry live Blue Spruce for those who like to plant your Christmas Tree after the holidays.
